During one of his visits to Guyana, Dr. Nar Singh, Chief of Paediatrics, at Humber River Regional Hospital, visited a neonatal care unit at one of the hospitals there. He was surprised and appalled to see the lack of medical attention and equipment available to newborns. What had the most profound impact on him was when he saw an infant in a shoebox as a dangerous alternative to an infant incubator.

Something had to be done to reduce the rising mortality rate of infants in developing countries like Guyana. This is when Dr. Nar Singh decided to start Guyana Help the Kids.
